AMORPHIS - "Magic & Mayhem - Tales From The Early Years" 2010

The compilation contains songs from the first three studio albums, everything is re-arranged and re-recorded by the current band members.

"September will also see the release of 'Magic & Mayhem – Tales From The Early Years', which contains re-recorded material from the start of your career up to and including the 'Elegy' album. What was the reason to do this project?

The band is twenty years old this year so it was time for a compilation again, the last one came ten years ago. Instead of putting songs together from here and there we thought it would be interesting to record them with the current line-up since we still play those songs live. I think it’s a killer compilation even if you heard the originals or not. It was also a fun album to make. Usually when we make a new albums the songs are new and many things need to be worked out, in this case we played the songs for years so all we needed to do was to rock as much as possible.

Why did you decide on the slightly different arrangements? Was it necessary because of the Tomi Joutsen's timbre, or was it an attempt at 'improving' the original versions?

Да не лучше и не хуже. Чутка непривычно из-за вокала, но глобальных переаранжировок там имхо нет. Я правда нешибко внимательно слушал, но ухо не резало.

17 сентября в рамках 20-летия группы, AMORPHIS выпустит специальную компиляцию "Magic & Mayhem – Tales From The Early Years", в которую будут включены перезаписанные и переаранжированные версии песен с первых трех альбомов (1992's "Karelian Isthmus", 1994's "Tales From The Thousand Lakes" и 1996's "Elegy"). По словам Petri, Isa был очень доволен тем, как получились "My Kantele" и "Song Of The Troubled One". В коллекцию также войдут такие бриллианты как "Vulgar Necrolatry" и кавер-версия композиции THE DOORS "Light My Fire". Последняя песня была записана группой и вошла в переиздание "Tales from the Thousand Lakes" на виниле, но новое издание будет содержать новейшую версию, которая была записана в начале 2010 года.
