What does the average Russian knows about Finland? Basically, not that much. The majority of capitals residents lives with the stereotypes, widely spread by the local mass-media – Santa Klaus, Polar lights, cheap shopping, aquaparks.. This Northern country has streghtened as the cradle of calm, measured, rather boring life in minds of Russians. Travel agencies, following these stereotypes, provide its services by issuing from those as well. Everyone of us noticed “cottage leisure”, “lake trips”, “shop tours in Helsinki” or “excursions in aquaparks of Finland” ads. The most extreme leisure, provided by the tour operators are alpine skiing in Lapland or snowmobile cross-country rides. But downhill speed lovers prefer Alpine or Pyrenean long slopes instead of hills Of Finland and winter extreme sport fans are mostly enough solvent for organizing the own rides and even competitions.

But the searching mind does always find! Three years ago, in May of 2006, Finland sensationally won the Eurovision-2006 contest, by leaving far behind the other participants. And this victory was held by the hot guys in ugly masks, thundered with the hard-rock riffs throughout the world and leaving the pop-Europe shocked and speechless. And Lordi was their name. Namely they lifted the curtain to another Finland – hot, boiling, hazardous and heartful country with the richest musical culture inside. Very few of us knew, that Finland is a leader in quantity of rock musicians per capita, very few of us knew that the amount of the active rock bands in Finland surpasses the one in the whole Eastern Europe! It’s clear that this strongly reflects on social life in Finland, as the results are countless gigs and open-air festivals.

Currently, Finland counts more than 50 summer rock-festivals, most of which are a titbit for European rock’n’roll gourmets. Provinssi, Ilosaari, Tuska, Tammerfest are well known and extremely popular as well as among Finnish rock lovers as the rest of progressive part of mankind to which any rock-oriented person ranks himself. Huge stages, notorious names, thousands of ecstatic fans – this is trademark of Finnish summer! Can you imagine rock-festival, which is organized in the heart of the capital, just in couple of hundreds meters from the central railway station, consisting of 30 thousands of black-dressed metalheads and guearded only with dozen of policemen and about fifty volunteers, can’t you? And in Finland it is a standard which’s supported by the city authorities and other social institutes. Finnish rock culture, been in shade ‘till nowadays, has finally grown and today declares about itself at the full power.

The biggest summer rock-event in Finland is certainly Ruisrock (Ryerock) which will take place in the place called Ruissalo, near the ancient capital of Finland – city of Turku. The festival launches on Friday, 3rd of July at 16:00 Finnish time (17:00 Moscow time) with several Finnish acts as the top metal formation Mokoma, melancholics from Kouvola Viikate, modern deathsters Children Of Bodom and Callisto step in. Big foreign names are presented with Disturbed, Deathstars and Neurosis. The day ends with the annihilating Americans Slipknot on the main stage. Saturday hangover will be removed with local acts like Stella, Scandinavian Music Group and CMX, the day will be completed by the girls from PMMP and Eppu Normaali – Ruisrock habitue’s. The evening prepares for visitors moshpits and walls of death as In Flames will rock the soil of Ruissalo, quality rock’n’roll from In Flames compatriots The Sounds and harsh headbanging as Lappeenranta trio Kotiteollisuus will perform with their new songs from the latest album “Ukonhauta”. The white night in Ruissalo will be decored with the music from Danish romantics Mew. Sunday starts with the Finnish cartridge as Kauko Royhka and Co., Stratovarius and Ismo Alanko Teholla will show up in front of the visitors. Daytime will be filled with old Finnish-singing rockers Apulanta and for those who can’t swallow Finnish for some reason The Crash will perform their hits. Last festival evening is expected to be extremely fun as Gypasy troubadours Gogol Bordello will make dance the whole festival area, Danish Elvises Volbeat will rock the shore of Ruissalo and Amorphis will give the people pleasure to enjoy their songs for 1 hour. Ruisrock’ 2009 stops with Mike Patton with Faith No More risen will put a bright and solid point to an end as fireworks will light the skies.

The festivals organizers provide the visitors with the accommodation in camping area near Turku-Halli, the well-equipped festival area with 4 stages and guarantee loads of fun and bright impressions. Festival tickets can be purchased via festival official webstore or Finnish ticket agencies Tiketti (http://www.tiketti.fi) or Lippupalvelu (http://www.lippupalvelu.fi). 3 days passes are EUR106,- and 1-day passes (per each day) are EUR65,-.

So, if you’re expecting to discover the other Finland or just looking for some new impressions, do not hesitate – Ruisrock welcomes you all! See you at the festival!
